ReCAP releases key Asset Management Practitioners’ Guideline for Low Volume Roads

The Research for Community Access Programme is proud to release the Rural Road Asset Management Practitioners’ Guideline. The Guideline is the outcome of a ReCAP flagship research project, conducted by a consortium led by Civil Design Solutions. The project aimed to identify best practice in effective rural road asset management in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) in Africa. It developed tools to enhance road asset management performance and tested these in four sub-Saharan countries, i.e. Sierra Leone, Uganda Zambia and Tanzania. Rural road authorities in these countries were trained in their use and in reporting the results.

The project promoted a change in the approach of rural road agencies towards the management of their road networks; it encouraged a holistic approach, where road agencies consider all six building blocks of the Road Preservation Pyramid (see below).
