Sign up for the ReCAP online learning courses on rural transport related topics
ReCAP in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, Ethiopia and the Bangladesh University for Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh, is piloting two online learning courses that are now open for enrolment. Participation in the courses is free of charge and the course can be accessed with any device. Please find here the pilot course details:
Course: Proficiency Testing Schemes for Materials Testing on Rural Roads
Course topic: | On this course, you will discover the importance of Proficiency Testing Schemes (PTS) for ensuring all findings from rural road development tests conducted in a soil and materials testing laboratory meet national and international standards. |
Start date: | 27 April 2020 (Duration: 3 weeks, 3 hours study per week) |
Target audience: | Rural road practitioners and road agency employees in Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia, in particular material technicians and managers in road agencies or road departments responsible for laboratory testing and proficiency testing schemes, staff from (semi-) autonomous materials laboratories, as well as engineering students and researchers studying rural road development. |

Course: Climate Resilience and Adaptation for Rural Roads
Course topic: | On this course, you will explore the impacts of climate change in terms of changing weather patterns, understanding the likelihood and frequency of their occurrence and consider how new and existing rural road infrastructure can be planned, designed, upgraded, maintained and adapted to become more climate-resilient. |
Start date: | 11 May 2020 (Duration: 3 weeks, 3 hours study per week) |
Target audience: | Anyone with a general interest in learning about the impact of climate change on rural infrastructure, in particular rural road practitioners and researchers in sub–Saharan Africa and South Asia, practitioners who manage, design, construct and maintain Low Volume Rural Roads (LVRR), and postgraduate engineering students studying rural road development. |

The links will take you to the Future Learn learning platform, where you will be able to sign up for the course of your preference.
The two courses will be run in a pilot format and an evaluation forms an integral part of the project design, aiming to collect feedback from participants addressing relevance, quality, user-friendliness, technical performance and other aspects. The evaluation results will feed into the improvement of the courses.
We encourage the widespread participation in the online courses and would be grateful if you can share this information through your networks with relevant potential participants.
